Our Training Content Development Guide

If your employees complain about boring training programs that don’t engage them, you might need to beef up your training content. Strong content development will create training programs that keep learners engaged while using best practices to meet learning objectives. But, developing a training course from scratch can be challenging. That’s why we’ve made this helpful training content development guide.

What Should Training Content Include?

For a training program to be effective, it must be dynamic and engaging. Creating good content isn’t enough. You have to include a variety of content that engages learners and keeps them attentive throughout the entirety of a program. Videos and slide presentations are great ways to visualize text that would otherwise be boring. You can even have some fun with your program by including training content like games and memes that learners can interact with.

What are The 5 Steps in the Training and Development Process?

  • Create your goals. In this first step, you should think about what kind of training your employees need and how receiving that training will improve your organization. You also need to assess your available resources for developing a training program.
  • Motivate people to participate. For your training course to be effective, you have to motivate people to take it. You also need to encourage trainers and training content developers to create and deliver high-quality training that engages and supports learners as they move through each activity.
  • Design your training program. A good training program contains engaging content that is well-planned, targeted to a specific audience, and effective.
  • Deliver the training. All of the heavy lifting during the first three steps comes to fruition through the delivery of the training program. Whether you use an online LMS or an in-person instructor to deliver your training programs, you’ll want to ensure they are prepared to interact with learners and maximize their learning potential.
  • Evaluate, make changes, and follow up. It’s rare for something to be perfect the first time around. Once you begin to deliver your training, have an evaluation plan in place that allows you to collect feedback from learners and make changes as your program evolves to meet their needs. Evaluation should be an ongoing process that occurs throughout the entire training program, not only at the end.

How Can You Improve Training Content?

The best way to improve your training content is through learner feedback and a high-quality Learning Management System (LMS). By getting feedback from your learners, you can alter your training program and optimize it to be even more engaging. A good LMS will help you by giving you a simple platform to create and manage content, view reports and analytics on training programs, and issue certificates of completion.
